Its main strength: a 32.5-megapixel Dual Pixel CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 8 processor, one of the highest-resolution APS-C sensors on the market at the time, packed into a body that fits in a small backpack. It is not a weather-sealed professional camera, but rather a "high-performance in a pocket-sized format" proposition: lots of resolution and a surprising burst rate of up to 14 fps with continuous autofocus, something unusual in such a compact camera.
It is designed for the enthusiast who wants a single lightweight camera for travel, street, portrait, some amateur action, and video. For video, it records 4K UHD at 30p without cropping and Full HD up to 120 fps for slow motion, with a microphone input to improve sound. Its Dual Pixel AF with face and eye detection is fast and reliable.
It is worth being honest: it uses the Canon EF-M mount, a system Canon no longer develops, with a limited lens catalog. It has no in-body stabilization or built-in viewfinder (the EVF is a separate accessory). Even so, it remains a very capable camera for those who value resolution and portability.

Which lenses are compatible with the Canon EOS M6 Mark II?
It uses the Canon EF-M mount. You can see the native options in our collection of Canon EF-M mount lenses. The EF-M catalog is limited (Canon made about 8 lenses, plus third parties such as Sigma, Tamron, or Viltrox), but with the EF-EOS M adapter it also accepts Canon EF and EF-S DSLR lenses, which greatly expands the possibilities at the cost of a bit more size.
How is the battery and battery life?
It uses a battery Canon LP-E17 and its battery life is among the weaker ones: according to CIPA, about 305 shots with the screen, ~250 with the EVF, and up to ~410 in Eco mode. This is below the mirrorless average, so carrying one or two spare batteries is practically mandatory if you are going to be out all day.
Is it good for recording video?
Yes, and quite well: it records 4K UHD at 30p without cropping (something many Canon cameras of its time did not offer) and Full HD up to 120 fps for slow motion. It has a 3.5 mm microphone input. Two honest warnings: it does not have in-body stabilization (it depends on the lens with IS) and it does not have a headphone output, so you will not be able to monitor the audio. 24p in 4K came via a firmware update.
Is it good for beginners?
It is very usable thanks to its tilting touchscreen and reliable autofocus, but its strong point (32.5 MP and 14 fps) is aimed more at the enthusiast who wants to grow. A beginner will enjoy it, although they should keep in mind that it does not include a built-in viewfinder and that the EF-M ecosystem is limited when it comes to expanding the kit.
Is it reliable bought second-hand?
Yes. It is a solid camera with no known chronic issues. The electronic shutter (up to 1/16000 s) helps distribute wear on the mechanical one. Since it is a system discontinued by Canon, there will be no new EF-M bodies or lenses, but that does not affect its operation: it still performs perfectly and there is stock of second-hand lenses.
What should I check when buying it used?
Confirm whether it includes the EVF-DC2 viewfinder, which is the expensive accessory that is often missing from body-only units. Also check the firmware version (for 24p in 4K), the condition and cycle count of the LP-E17 battery, the shutter count, and whether the lot is native EF-M or requires the EF-EOS M adapter (and whether the adapter is included).
Does it have a viewfinder and in-body stabilization?
No to both. It does not have a built-in viewfinder: it uses an optional electronic EVF (the EVF-DC2, also compatible with the DC1) that attaches to the hot shoe, so verify whether it is included. And it does not have in-body stabilization (IBIS): stabilization depends on the lens, so EF-M lenses with IS STM are recommended for handheld video and low light.
